Discuss the essay with your classmates. You’re all in this together! Bounce ideas off each other and make sure you all understand the question and what you should focus on. Do this really early, before your essay plan or you start any additional reading.

Run your essay plan past your tutor. This demonstrates to them that you have put some thought into your work. Ask them if they think you have covered the main points. Is there anything they feel is missing? Is there any further reading they could advise you to do?
Asking for help or advice will create a good impression with your tutor. If they see that you are dedicated, they might just mark your essay that bit more leniently – that’s just human nature, right?
Just think how many lazy, disinterested students who don’t engage properly tutors encounter every day…being asked for help will make your tutor feel good! Everybody likes to feel like they are making a positive difference in their job.
So don’t be scared of asking them for help or advice. Because not only will they be guiding you in putting together a better and higher scoring essay, you will also be sowing the seeds in their minds of a diligent, high achieving student!
