A key step in producing a high scoring essay or assignment is ensuring you cut out any silly spelling or grammar mistakes. You should also make sure your work flows nicely and is easy to read.

Cutting out silly mistakes is crucial in impressing the person marking your essay or assignment!

So always make sure you leave enough time to review, proof read and spell check your work. But even the best proof readers miss simple things, and spell checking doesn’t pick up everything!

I like to use Word’s Read Aloud function as an added tool to really sharpen up my work! This does exactly what it says on the tin – it will read aloud your work for you to listen back to.

Click ‘Review’ and then hit the ‘Read Aloud’ button and away you go!

Listening to your work read aloud, spelling mistakes that spellchecker has overlooked will immediately jump out to you! You can pause the Read Aloud and correct your error.

The tool provides a welcome change when you have been staring at a screen all day. You may also hear sections of your work that just don’t quite sound right when read aloud. So pause, review, simplify and improve your language!

Give it a try and let me know how you get on!
